transition to a circular economy

The Circular Economy means systems of production and consumption that aims to extend the useful life of products and services taking into account the resilience of ecosystems . Then it is a tool for a change of paradigm -designing out waste , emissions and discharges.

The ‘waste’ from one process becomes the feedstock for the next process.

Trillion €

According to a report done by McKensey & Company Circular Economy could bring benefits of 1.8 trillion Euros by 2030.

1 %
of possile reduction

of  Greenhouse gas emissions globally.

1 %

in the use of virgin materials , reducing environmental impacts associated with obtaining of raw materials.

Why transition to a circular economy?

Circular Economy has the potential of reducing greenhouse gases by different mechanisms such as the efficient use of energy , reducing emissions , also by integrating once again materials that had been transformed into productive processes saving the amount of energy that it would have been invested or even when instead of purchasing any item, product or service we share it.

Circular Economy may transform the way in which we consume or produce since it is a change of paradigm that need of multi stakeholder action to achieve new ways of producing products and services , cooperation among states or companies , integration of basic users and consumer of goods. among many other actions. But the main conclusion is that it need of us all to close this virtuous circle where resources are use at its maximum potential.

Since the Circular Economy promote the efficient use of products and services , the extension in life use and the reincorporation of recycled or the reuse of materials , water or energy what it does is that reduces emissions or discharges that could pollute air and water resources , lowering the negative effects in biodiversity . Also another huge effect is the reduction of the pressure to extract new raw materials from forestry , agriculture , mining or oil exploitation to name a few.

Our GOals

There are multiple kinds of projects to implement to a Circular economy transition, where Rotarian Action can help to close the gaps in the use of materials , energy and water . This could be done by implementing different kind of solutions that can also bring economic benefits to clubs and stakeholders. Climate Solutions Coalitions goals for this focus of emphasis are:

For projects associated with water efficiency Climate Solutions Coalition spects to generate in this first stage  20.000 l/year of water savings.

For projects associated with reducing food waste and use of residual biomass of any source, Climate Solutions Coalition spects to generate in this first stage 500 kg/year of food recovered and its value in CO2 equivalent/year .

Save 500 kg/year of recyclable material.
